Pre-K
News
We are learning about Spring time and how plants grow. We are also learning to classify animals.
I hope you enjoy the valuable information Pre-K wants to share with you.
Gus- Lions are mammals. Whales are mammals. My dog Duke is a mammal. Cows, Bears, and cats are mammals. They are mammals because they drink milk from their mamas and they have fur. People are mammals too!
Reece-
Giraffes are mammals. Guinea pigs are mammals. Mammals have fur and they have
live babies. Fish and birds are not mammals.
Saxie-
Mammas lay eggs sometimes like fish in the ocean. Tigers have live babies. Cats
lick themselves. Baby elephants are born. Ladybugs fly.
Mia-
Dogs have babies. Fish lay eggs. Animals with fur are called mammals. There is
one mammal that lives in the ocean, a whale.
Laney-
Flowers need three things. Water, soil, and sun. Turtles lay eggs in a hole and
cover them up. Giraffes have live babies. Kids are mammals!
Luke-
I learned to plant my plant. It needs water, seed, soil, and sunshine. Don’t
water it very often or it will look like the ocean. Animals can hibernate. They
come out of their holes in the Spring time. People have babies and Lions can
fly!
Erick-
Some animals have fur, some have feathers, and some have scales. My animals live
in the house. Puppies live in the house and so do ants!
Chaz-
We put pictures of animals on paper in the hall. One paper has sharks on the
fish paper. The yellow one is about birds. We have one about snakes. The big
paper has lions on it they are mammals.
C-
Elephants blow water out of their nose. A tiger growls. Fish lay eggs. Birds lay
eggs. We read books about animals.
Jack-
Animals have fur. Babies are born and some are hatched from an egg. Some animals
have scales and feathers. Frogs lay eggs then the eggs turn in to tadpoles and
they turn in to frogs!
J-
Birds are my favorite animal. Birds don’t have babies. They fly and drink
water. They eat seeds.
During
Valentines, Mattee’s mother read a book to the class called “A Scent-sational
Valentine”. Throughout the story
the kids smelled different items and in return were given a cinnamon stick, a
chocolate kiss, perfume, cookies, and pizza (to EAT!). It was a great story. So,
later I asked the Kindergarteners what they thought Valentines was all about:
Cheyenne: Treats and parties
D:
Having FUN!
John:
All about having friends over
Jose:
About friends, parties, and valentine cards
M: HEARTS!
Mattee: Friends and being KIND!
S: Friends!
Wyatt:
CUPCAKES!
Wow! Spring
Fever has hit 1st grade! This
is my favorite time of the year because we begin new exciting units!
We are doing an author study over Patricia Polacco.
She is a wonderful children’s book author.
Some of her books are titled Chicken Sunday, John
Phillip Duck, Rechenka’s Eggs, and (my personal favorite) When
Lightening Comes in a Jar.
We are also beginning the Solar System unit.
This is ALWAYS a favorite with the kids.
Don’t forget to come see us on April 10th for the parent
fair along with the 3 Rivers Foundation. It
will be ‘Out of this World’!!!
My favorite Patricia Polacco book is:
A- Rechenka’s Egg’s because she lays beautiful
eggs.
Lane- My
Rotten Red Headed Older Brother because Patricia beat her brother staying on the
merry-go-round longer.
Thomas- John
Phillip Duck because the ducks were really smart.
J- Rechenka’s
Eggs because the eggs are pretty.
Stevie- When
Lightning Comes in a Jar because Patricia got older and taught the little kids
how to catch lightning in a jar.
Kadi- Rechenka’s
Eggs because I liked where Rechenka left Babushka a pretty egg.
Priscila-
When Lightening Comes in a Jar because it makes my teacher cry.
Cooper- My
Rotton Red Headed Brother because it was kind of funny to me.
Edwin- When Lightning comes in a Jar because it made my
teacher cry.
Tommy- When
Lightning comes in a Jar because it made my teacher cry because it reminded her
of her family.
Mason- When
Lightning Comes in a Jar because it wasn’t really lightning, it was
fireflies!!
Bryan- My
Rotten Red Headed Older Brother because he can spit the farthest.

For spring break what did you do? What
I did was I went to Amarillo to buy paint and blankets that had monkeys on them.
The next day I woke up and got ready early, and I began to take
everything out of my room like my bed and my toys and I began to paint my room
pink. “Wow, what a pretty pink
color,” I said.
I had
never seen a pink color like this. I
painted the walls pink and my doors white. Then I went to call my parents to
help me paint monkeys on the ceiling and the wall. After we finished painting,
my parents and I moved all my things into my room. I was glad that my room was painted!

This last six weeks my whole classroom was studying different kind of
Indians. Our whole classroom had a
very wonderful time doing the Indian projects.
Hunter, Kate, Roland, and I studied the Mountains and Basins Indians.
Ella, Jahir, and Haylee were studying the Coastal Plains Indians. Ryanne
and Abby were studying the Central Plains Indians. It was fun.
At our Thanksgiving feast we had to bring some dessert so we could eat
all of it. Ryanne brought pumpkin
pie. Ella brought cookies. Kate brought a pumpkin cake.
Hunter brought candy corn cake. Jahir
brought cheese pie. Cayden brought
rice crispy treats.
It was the best.
Lupita
What did you do for Spring Break? Well, I hunted prairie dogs
and went shopping and did some other things. So it all started when my dad,
Thomas, Hannah, and I went out to our land to spread out some prairie dog
poison, but I didn’t see any prairie dogs, but my dad could see some in the
distance so he gets out his gun and tells us we are going to hunt prairie dogs.
We saw four prairie dogs, but we only shot one, because they move so fast.
My family
then went to Amarillo to shop at Best Buy. We looked around in Best Buy, and we
finally saw some things we wanted. My sister bought Guitar Hero. Thomas bought
five new video games, and I bought The Bee Movie and The Game Plan. After that
we went out for supper.
The next
day my dad told Thomas and Hannah to fill up the holes in the backyard that my
dog dug. While they were filling up the holes I was raking the alley. It was
pretty easy at first, but then it got tiring, so my dad got me some gloves to
put on to make it easier. Now that was some hard work!!!
The next
day Thomas, Hannah, and I spent the whole day playing Guitar Hero. On Guitar
Hero there are four levels. The levels are easy, medium, hard, and expert. You
have to start on easy though. I am ahead of my sister and brother on easy!!!
How did
you spend your Spring Break?
Ella
What did you do for spring break? I
hid eggs for Easter and it was fun. After
I hid the eggs outside, my sisters and my brother ran out of the house to find
the eggs that I had hid. We went in
the house to count how many eggs they found.
Carlie had the most eggs. It
was the best spring break ever!
Roland
This is how my
spring break turned out.
I asked my
mom if I could paint eggs alone for once. She said, “No, you can dry the eggs
alone after you’re finished coloring.” As soon as everyone was finished
coloring eggs, I began to dry the eggs. But
then I saw that a couple of eggs weren’t colored, so I began to color the
eggs. Every egg was beautiful. I even put a bible verse on one. For God so loved
the world and he loves you too! Spring break was so fun! I had the best time.
I got to paint eggs in Borger, Texas.
I had help getting the colors ready. .It was the best spring break
ever!!!!!!!
Ryanne
Over
spring break I moved in to the new house. I have a new Brazilian pine bunk bed.
I bought seven signs and an elk clock to put up in my room. The signs say Good
Ole Boys Deer Camp, Remington, Winchester, Peter Bullet Co., Elk, Deer, and dog
over shotgun. We have one hundred channels on Dish and the only one I watch is
The Outdoor Channel.
We stayed
at my Uncle Gary’s house. I played with my friends Justin from Edgewood and
David from Canton. We played football and wrestled in the grass. We went fishing
and Justin caught a bass. I caught a turtle, but he got away.
Hunter
This spring break I went to a sweet 15 party. When my friends
and I got to Cactus it was crowed. It was so crowed I could barely even fit. I
played some pool in the ballroom, and beat lots of people in the ballroom. I
also went to the horse races. It was awesome because my friends and I were
playing cops and robbers. It was good because I ran from them and I chased them.
That was the best spring break ever.
Jahir
How did you spend your spring break? I spent mine in
Amarillo! If you did not go anywhere, strap in because we’re going to go on a
ride!!!!!!!!
On Wednesday, I went to Amarillo with my mom! I had to wake up at seven
thirty in the morning just because my eye doctor appointment was at nine. I was
so sleepy that on the way there I fell asleep in the car! It was a good thing
that I brought my pillow and blanket. My mom talked on her cell phone the whole
way to Amarillo!
When we entered Amarillo, we went to a place called Eye Premier. We
stepped in the door and we saw that it was huge! It was beautiful!!!! We spotted
a whole section of glasses! While we were waiting we went over to the glasses to
choose the glasses I wanted. The glasses I chose were pink, purple, and red. I
absolutely loved my new glasses! Dr. Gladman examined my eyes then I got my new
glasses.
Next we got back on the highway and we went to a restaurant called On the
Border. When we got there we saw lights strung across the restaurant. A few
minutes later a waitress came and took us to a table set for two. After we ate
our lunch my mom ordered us both ice creams!!
We then arrived on the highway and made a right turn to go to Wall Mart.
After that we went to the section where you can get your hair cut. I decided to
get my hair cut. When they were finished cutting my hair, you could tell that I
had had a couple of inches cut off. I love my new hair do!
In Amarillo I had a great time with my mom. It was fantastic! In
conclusion, getting my hair cut, going to On the Boarder, and getting to get new
glasses were the best spring break that I have had so far!!!!!
Haylee
For spring break I went to my grandma’s house for the week. I’ll be
telling you about it so hang on to your hat because we’re going for a ride!
On Monday I played the whole day and watched TV a little. I played with
my cousins in their hot tub. We played in the hot tub like two or three hours.
Then we went inside to watch a movie.
On Tuesday I played at my cousin’s house. We played on their trampoline
in their backyard. Then we went inside to watch TV. Then I had to go back to my
grandma’s house. We watched Enchanted. It was awesome!
On Wednesday I played with my cousins again. We watched Enchanted, but
didn’t finish it. I played in the hot tub again but not for very long. Nobody
would get in with me. So I got out and dried in the sun. Then I went inside.
On Thursday I just watched TV. I just watched Sponge bob Square pants
until my mom came to pick me up. On the way home I watched Cars and when we got
home I went straight to bed and fell straight to sleep.
Kate
How was your Spring Break? Well I had a great one. It was fantastic. Do
you want to hear about it? If you want to hear about my spring break then follow
me.
One of the
things I did was snowboard. It was really fun. I was the fastest snowboarder in
my class [on crab sliding]. I went really fast. You wouldn’t believe how fast
I went! Trust me it was really fast! If I told you all about it would take too
long.
While I
was renting a snowboard [by me I mean my grandma and grandpa] well it was taking
too long! It took us like an hour just to get the order forms! And the rest was
no quicker! I mean it shouldn’t take that long.

I like Language Arts. It is fun. We did a
poster about animals. Mine was a cheetah. We also did a slide show with our
posters. We read a few books and we
wrote a few stories. We watched a
movie the other day. We recorded our stories on tape. It was fun!
Kelsea
In reading class we started reading a book
called The Teacher’s Funeral. It’s
about a boy named Russell who wants to go harvest wheat in the Dakotas after he
sees the new harvest machine. So, he plans to go off when his teacher dies, but
then his sister, Tansy becomes the new schoolteacher. Read the book to find out
the rest.

Math is the finest class in the school. I
mean it’s my favorite class because you get to have lots of fun n that class,
and you get to learn new stuff. All I know is that that class is my favorite
class.
Misael
After spring break, I got to go play the
French horn. The French horn is very circular. It has four keys and plays 1 note
above the trumpets.
Z
I know this is one of my favorite classes in
the world. Do you know why? Of course it is where you do chemicals, notes,
science movies, and the best of all, Coach Forrest. I like when he is doing a
chemical and se says, “BANG!” Everybody gets scared. Then my friends almost
cry. The other day we shot a rocket with coke, and it didn’t work. In a few
days we shot it again. Coach Forrest put lots of mints in the soda bottle and it
worked, but it did not go that high. At least we did something. I like Science.
It is cool.
Ramon
In Language Arts we are writing a story
called General Animal Hospitals. We are almost done with our story. It is
so much fun.
Gabby
In study skills we get to go on the computer
andgo to studyisland.com. We can do math, reading, and science.
C
In math I am learning area. I know how to do
it.
Juan
In Social Studies we get to see movies about
the three branches of government or what we are studying. We get to play games. We take a lot of tests about our
reading notes. We get to work in partners. We get this piece of paper that says
we get to play on the computer.
I like going to PE because we get to play
lots of games, and sometimes we get FREE DAY FRIDAY. Everyday I love to go to
PE.
Juan Gabriel
I am reading a book about teacher’s

reading another book about the one Indian. I want to go to the library.

In PE the 7th and 8th
grade boys have been practicing for track. The 6th grade boys run
while the others practice. We run tow laps, and then play basketball. We run two
laps around the school every day except for Wednesday and Friday. On those days,
we get to play basketball. PE is really fun.
Kane
In band we have been practicing our solos and
our concert music. We also watched the movie Peter Pan. Now we are
watching Drumline. This 6-weeks in band has been really fun.
Katie
In Science we have been working on food
pyramids and webs for animals. We have also been working on owl pellets. Most of
the 6th grade class thought they were disgusting. They are in the
hallway on display.
Elsa
In Social Studies we have studied Europe,
Russia, and just starting Asia. When we were studying Europe, we had a food
party.
Molly
In girls’ Reading we all picked an
independent novel. It’s just like reading a book together except alone. There
are some predictions and confirmations, but more activities.
Gena
In Math we have been going through our lessons
fast. First we get on TAKS 6. We work together on lessons. We have clickers that
we use to click our answers. It is fun!!
Jennifer
What we did over the last 6 weeks is read a
book called The Misadventures of Maude March.
Maude and Sallie are going to Independence to see their Uncle.
Ismael
In study Skills we learned about details and
we are now moving on to our “What If” papers. Study Skills is a lot of fun!.
Emilynn
In athletics we are running. The 7th
and 8th graders are doing track things. But, before this we were
doing basketball. We got to play basketball and work on our skills. Athletics is
fun, and I love it.
Erin
In Language Arts we have been doing some
really cool stuff. We wrote these stories and put in sound effects. Then we
recorded them. We also watched a little video about cats, and we are watching a
movie called Snow Buddies. I
can’t wait to finish it.
Alec
In Art class we have been painting an Easter
poster and Easter eggs. The thing about the Easter poster is our teacher cut the
poster up and we had to draw and paint by folding to get as close to the actual
piece of paper. When we were all
done, we put it together with tape, and it was a little deformed. We are now
going to start another project, but I don’t know what it is. I bet it is fun.

Grade memories for this last 6 weeks!
So
far in Language Arts we have published our books, recorded stories, taken a TAKS
test, and watched a movie. This is all I know.
Tannin
We
started track this 6 weeks. We have gone to 3 meets. At one of our track meets
it was like 20 degrees. It was freezing cold.
S
These
last 6 weeks in PE we practiced track. We mostly worked on field events such as:
high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put, and discus. We have also worked on
running events by sprinting around the football field about ten times. That’s
pretty much all we did this last 6 weeks.
Nathan
In
Math the 7th grade is getting ready for the TAKS test. We have been
working very hard. The work we do is hard, but it’ teaching us a lot. Mrs.
Hopkins is doing a great job at getting us ready for TAKS and for 8th

Halli
We
are learning about skeletal and muscular structures, and internal organs in
science.
Reese
In

In
7th grade Language Arts, we have been preparing for the writing TAKS

The
7th grade Social Studies class has finished up the Revolution of
Texas. We’ve learned about TX being an independent country. We’ve also
learned about its joining together with the US and the Mexican War. Now we have
started learning about Texas’s economy.
Audrey
Last
6 weeks in Reading we read Bella at Midnight. It was about a Knight’s daughter
who was raised by a peasant family. She grew up ignorant of her royalty. Her
peasant family and her best friend, Prince Julian, always called her Princess
Bella. One day a lady is at their cottage, and she turns out to be Bella’s
Aunt. Her fake family explains to Bella she is of noble blood and she must go to
live with her father and stepmother. This was a very good book. So if you like
medieval times stuff, I recommend this book.

challenge.

Mrs.
Hopkins has been crazy working on the TAKS with the 8th graders. For
it is very important for us to pass the test. We have been working on scatter
points and other objectives.
