Language Arts/Reading
In Language Arts and Reading we have all new
curriculum for Middle School grades. We
will be doing many types of activities that pertain to state requirements.
These activities include writing, reading, listening, and speaking
activities. The students will be
expected to keep journals. They will
learn organizational strategies, add to their vocabulary, and write many
papers. We will hold Writer Workshops
in our classroom when composing papers.
Every six weeks we will concentrate on a different type of writing:
descriptive, narrative, compare/contrast, cause/effect, persuasive, and informative. All classes will write some type of research
paper.
Reading groups are going to be
different this year. They will be mixed
in grade levels. There are new books
for reading as well. The students will
use reading books, novels, and accelerated reading books. The students will
keep reading logs for their accountability.
