1st Grade
In first grade, we will start our day with calendar time, phonics review, ABC review, and any new concepts. The students will participate in interactive writing and Shared Reading at this time. During Interactive Writing, students will have their own board to write on while the student of the day writes on the big easel. Together we will figure out what we are going to write about, check for understanding, and go through the process of capitalization, punctuation, and left to right writing. We illustrate what we have written about. Each student participates with the lesson and learning. This is a very interactive process.
Guided Reading will include Reading groups ad
Literacy Center. We work on many
different concepts depending on what we are studying. During Centers, students have time to practice what we have done
during the week, such as spelling words, new math facts, question words, etc. They work in groups of 3-4 and every 2 weeks
we will switch the groups and captains so each student has the opportunity to
work together and as a captain.
