Science
The
dictionary explains Science as the possession of knowledge. At Pringle –Morse
our aim is to increase this knowledge. Today, we are learning more information,
learning it faster, and there are more new inventions and discoveries then ever
before. Science at Pringle-Morse will introduce the students to this changing
knowledge and help students to become lifelong learners. They will be taught
skills today that will allow ways to solve tomorrow’s problems.
The
5th grade can expect to study general Science. This will include
Geology with exposure to volcanoes, earthquakes and weather. Another field of study will be Physics
involving forces of motion, electricity, and safety. The study of living organisms, microscopes, cells and the human
body exposes students to Biology. They
will see the wonder of science involving chemistry activities including the
Periodic Table of Elements.
The
6th will examine general Sciences in greater depth. Their study will include volcano building,
weather mapping, light and sound activities, plant growth charting, owl pellet
dissecting. They will have fun
exploring new compounds with the elements.
The
7th graders focus most of their year on Biology. They dwell into the
complexity of the Human Body. Students study organisms, dissect worms, and
frogs. They explore the Taxonomy of the
animal kingdom using their insect collections.
Later in the year they move on to Physics. All of this will be topped off by an egg drop contest.
The
8th grade will spend most of the year studying Earth Science. They study rock classification. They also read maps, predict tornadoes, and
explore the constellations. A rocket-building
contest that propels them to high school will top off their year.
